When a custom home builder in Oakville reached out through a referral from Unilock, they were seeking a design partner who could bring refinement and balance to a newly built French-modern estate. The homeowners were dissatisfied with the original landscape proposal, feeling it lacked personality and cohesion. They wanted a timeless yet modern outdoor design that would elevate the home’s curb appeal, enhance usability, and complement its architectural character.
At Leo Landscape Studio, we approach every project as an opportunity to merge artistry with precision. Using Dynascape, SketchUp, and Lumion, we developed an immersive 3D experience that allowed the homeowners to visualize their future property with striking realism — from the subtle texture of stone finishes to the warm evening lighting that framed the pathways.
The goal was clear: create a luxurious, cohesive landscape that felt both functional and enduring — one that captured the essence of French-modern architecture through symmetry, simplicity, and craftsmanship.
Design Process
The process began with a comprehensive client questionnaire — a signature step in our workflow that ensures each design decision reflects how our clients live, entertain, and relax.
From this insight, our design team produced two unique concept plans:
One emphasizing formal balance with structured geometry and mirrored planting layouts,
Another focusing on modern European minimalism, using texture, shadow, and asymmetry to achieve visual depth.
After collaborative refinement sessions, the homeowners chose a hybrid direction that blended formality and modern simplicity.
We then crafted a 3D master plan that included:
Custom interlock paving patterns for driveways and terraces
Integrated pool and spa layout with refined transitions
Architectural lighting to highlight stonework and structural elements
Planting design using a curated selection from NVK Nursery, emphasizing year-round color and scale
The design phase lasted just over four weeks, with multiple visual walkthroughs and material studies conducted to finalize the aesthetic.
Project Coordination
Following approval, Leo Landscape Studio led the tendering and coordination process, ensuring competitive bids and clear communication across all parties.
We collaborated with Lotus Landscaping Group, Oakly Landscaping, and Mandarin Survey to translate the digital vision into reality, maintaining close oversight on detailing and execution.
The project unfolded over three months, with a construction cost of approximately $250,000.
Every element was chosen for both beauty and durability, featuring:
Unilock Courtstone, Beacon Hill, Urban Line, and Series pavers for timeless texture and contrast
Techo-Bloc Graphix Wall as a bold architectural statement
StoneArch Onyx Black Granite for steps, coping, and accent features
Custom carpentry detailing for perimeter framing and vertical depth
Plant materials from NVK Nursery, chosen to complement the home’s French-modern façade
Leo Landscape Studio remained hands-on throughout, attending site visits to oversee grading, planting layout, and lighting installation. The collaboration between design and construction teams ensured fidelity to the original concept, precision in craftsmanship, and a seamless integration between hardscape and softscape elements.

The front yard now presents a powerful first impression, defined by a balanced composition of Courtstone borders, Beacon Hill pavers, and carefully proportioned planting beds.
In the rear garden, the pool design and granite detailing create a calm, luxurious atmosphere, anchored by subtle lighting that reveals new dimensions after dusk.
