Perched above the iconic Scarborough Bluffs overlooking Lake Ontario, this project represents one of Leo Landscape Studio’s most comprehensive 2D design packages to date. After completing a full renovation of their home, the homeowners sought a landscape that would reflect the property’s stunning location and modern-classic architecture. Their existing driveway, pool area, and backyard layout felt outdated and disconnected from the home’s new aesthetic. Our goal was to craft a cohesive outdoor design that unified beauty, function, and precision—turning this lakeside property into a refined retreat worthy of its surroundings.
Reimagining the Outdoor Layout
The original layout confined activity to one corner of the yard, with an aged pool and limited patio space that failed to capture the site’s potential. We began by completely reconfiguring the flow of the property, designing a central pathway that links the pool area with a new custom cabana and outdoor kitchen. This new arrangement created harmony between the home and its natural setting while maximizing every square foot of usable space. The result is an open, balanced environment where entertaining, lounging, and relaxing all coexist effortlessly.
Material Selection & Hardscape Details
Every material was chosen for its elegance, durability, and alignment with the home’s modern-classic tone.
- Driveway: Unilock Urban 100 mm (Sterling Colour) with Mattoni Sable Blend accents in a herringbone pattern adds rhythm and visual depth.
- Porch Overlay: Porcea Rio Black stone introduces rich contrast.
- Back Patio: A refined combination of Porcea Ash Timber and Porcea Stone Greige.
- Pool Coping: Oakville Stone Hampton Limestone Bullnose for a smooth, timeless edge.
- Retaining Walls: Unilock U-Cara (Opal Blend) with Endura Bullnose Coping.
- Dining Patio & Walkway: Unilock Mattoni Sable Blend for texture and continuity.
- Sunken Patio: Unilock Skyline (Opal Blend) to anchor the lower seating zone.
The use of layered paver tones and clean geometry ensures a seamless flow between the home’s architectural lines and the surrounding landscape.
Planting Design & Seasonal Expression
To balance the strong architectural forms, we introduced a richly textured planting palette. Every plant was selected from NVK Nursery for its structure, color, and adaptability to the Bluffs’ microclimate. Key highlights include Forest Pansy Redbud, Vanilla Strawberry Hydrangea, Berry Smoothie Coral Bells, and Russian Sage. The combination of ornamental grasses, flowering perennials, and evergreen shrubs creates a living tapestry that evolves through the seasons—softening the hardscape while enhancing visual depth and biodiversity.
